Autodesk LIVE now supports Vive and Oculus Rift

Announced back in July of this year, (see, Architosh, “Autodesk intros new LIVE visualization environment—viewer for iOS platform,” 25 July 2016) Autodesk LIVE is a new interactive visualization service offered specifically to Autodesk Revit users in architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) industries; LIVE enables users to transform BIM models into fully interactive 3D model environments.

Now with Vive and Oculus Rift Support

Autodesk is touting the “on-demand” capacities of Autodesk LIVE and now with VR headgear support. LIVE is a game-changing, cloud-based service that transforms Revit models into interactive experiences, in just one click. Rather than seeing your model in 3D, LIVE lets you experience it.

In order to jump from seeing 3D models to “experiencing” such models, virtual reality (VR) gear is mandatory. Now with Vive and Oculus Rift support, Revit users and stakeholders have that power.

How It Works

With one click BIM models are automatically processed for the LIVE environment cloud service. With the second click, Revit transforms the user into virtual reality, using the latest LIVE release (which is technically still in a beta release).

The way the second click works is inside the LIVE environment the second mouse click toggles the VR head gear connectivity on or off.

Access and Availability

Current LIVE subscribers automatically have access to the new VR beta, starting now. For new users, LIVE remains available on a monthly subscription basis. Autodesk has also extended the free trial period to 30 days.
