Lands Design is a new software product for designing gardens, green spaces and landscapes and it runs inside McNeel’s popular 3D Rhino program. The new program is still in beta and its release points to what is actually possible with vertical software development on top of the Rhino environment.

With Lands Design users can create landscape designs in 3D and 2D. Features include the ability to design with actual 3D plant species, create civil work elements like sidewalks, work with terrains and utilize free-from modeling. The tool also enables users to produce documentation, setting out plans, plant schedules, watering systems and zoning. For terrain modeling, it features its own terrain modeling tools for creating accurate terrain models for sites, based on imported GIS data.
01 – Lands Design is a new landscape architecture design tool built on Rhino.
Lands Design features an extensive plant database with over 1800 species. The plant database has technical specifications and detailed characteristics of each species. Use it to arrange trees, shrubs, ground covers, etc. Plan out plans individually, in rows or as even forests. Customize each plant in 2D and 3D.
Lands Design features the capacity to render landscape designs and create virtual tours and walk-throughs.
Price, Availability and the Mac
The company says the current beta is free to use. Once a first commercial release is ready a final price will be set for Lands Design. Additionally, a Mac OS X version of Lands Design will be possible, says the company, though it needs McNeel to have all the components in the Mac version of Rhino to allow third-party development.
