Luxion and Onshape partner for the release of KeyShot connection for Onshape

Luxion, a leading developer of advanced rendering and lighting technology and maker of KeyShot, the first real-time ray-tracing and global-illumination program for 3D rendering and animation, recently announced the release of KeyShot Connection for Onshape, a new and free plugin available with the introduction of the Onshape App Store.

Unique collaboration

Onshape’s first full-cloud 3D CAD system brings a new level of accessibility to design and collaboration. Now, through a connected workflow with any full license of KeyShot, Onshape users have the ability to create photorealistic renderings and animations of their Onshape Documents. This unique integration allows Onshape users to connect to their Onshape account from inside KeyShot, browse Documents and import their models quickly into KeyShot. KeyShot scenes can be shared back to an Onshape Document with any changes made, seamlessly updated through the connection without losing any material, lighting or animation set-up in KeyShot.

01 – KeyShot Connection for Onshape allows users to move models between the modeling and the rendering environment, make updates and share KeyShot scenes with other team members.

“With the growth of Onshape and request for Onshape support from KeyShot users, we are pleased to partner with them for the introduction of the Onshape App Store,” says Thomas Teger, VP of Products and Strategy at Luxion. “This confirms with us that more 3D professionals are interested in mobile solutions with the ability to create high-quality visuals of their 3D data quickly.”

How it works

After installation of the plugin, KeyShot is opened and “Connect to Onshape” is selected from the File menu. Once connected to an Onshape account, public or private Documents and Workspaces may be browsed. A Part Studio or Assembly is selected and brought into KeyShot with the click of a button, with the model structure, part and assembly names all maintained. (KeyShot Pro adds the ability to import NURBS data for perfectly smooth, rounded surfaces.) After materials, environments and textures are added in KeyShot, the scene may be saved and uploaded directly to an Onshape Document for others to make updates. When a change to the design occurs, “Connect to Onshape” is selected again to easily update the model in the KeyShot scene with all work inside KeyShot preserved, ensuring everything is up-to-date throughout the entire design process.

Pricing and availability

The KeyShot Connection for Onshape is a connected desktop app available as a free download through the Onshape App Store.
