Interest in GRAPHISOFT Russia student design competition runs high

Moscow State University of Civil Engineering (MGSU) was established in 1921. Before 1993 it was known as Moscow Institute of Civil Engineering named after V.V. Kuibyshev (MISI). It is one of the oldest technical institutes of higher education of the Russian Federation.

The competition attracted 107 students from across Russia, with many students competing in more than one category.

“Apartment Houses” category

Sergey Sherbinenko won First Place in the Apartment houses category for his design of a sectional five-story apartment building. Designed as social housing, the building is imagined in the historic part of the city and surrounded by two-story wooden buildings with a sloped roof.

01 – Sergey Sherbinenko’s building has 3 parts: a ground floor, containing shopping and offices while the rest of the building designed as living areas.

The building is paneled with wood texture and glass and an innovative take on the roof line that responds to context.

“Free Theme” category

Anastasia Shampurova took First Place in the Free Theme category for her design of the Museum of Marine Flora and Fauna.

02 – Anastasia Shampurova’s design was inspired by skeletons of marine creatures.

The interior style has a similar design to the exterior, while the stepped roof of the construction repeats the shape of the sea creature’s shell. The building accommodates a lecture hall, a library, and laboratories for marine studies. The nearby seashell-shaped outdoor Dolphinarium adds to the harmony of the planned location.

“Joint” Category

In the Joint category, Alexander Salnikov won first place for his design called “Green House,” an experimental multi-story residential building with attached block-greenhouses of a new generation, based on multi-tier hydroponic narrowly-racked plants.

03 – Alexander Salnikov’s design, called “Green House” is located on Krasnovisherskaya Street, in Perm and the design assumes the role of unifier in the urban development plan. All rights reserved.

The general concept of the design is based on the principle of simplicity. The tower consists of repeating stories with threading on the central engineering unit. Wind turbines and solar panels are located on top of the towers.
