Autodesk intros massive Fusion 360 update for the Fall

Autodesk has added simulation capabilities to its Autodesk Fusion 360 mechanical design software for Windows and Macintosh. Designed to speed up design iteration by providing key analysis results up-front in the design process, Fusion 360 produces a simple heat-map type graphic and physical movement (force and resistance to force) overlay, instructing the designer or engineer about the structural capacities of a design.

Fall Update: Fusion 360

Simulation in Fusion 360 includes the ability to perform both linear stress and modal analysis. Users can define materials and add loads and forces to a design to test the strength of their parts and assemblies.

“Simulation traditionally takes multiple software tools and hours of work. Not so with Fusion 360.  We made it powerful, but drop-dead simple. And by integrating simulation directly within the design and engineering workflow, users can not only build more viable parts with fewer iterations, but they can also develop intuition and expertise to reach validation more quickly,” said Kevin Schneider, Director of Fusion 360 at Autodesk. “We see this update as the next critical step in making Fusion 360 the most innovative integrated platform for developing products, from concept all the way to fabrication.”

Autodesk says that additional simulation capabilities will come in the future updates, such as thermal and fatigue analysis.

Collaboration Gets Real-Time

Team collaboration in this latest update gains a boost in real-time, multi-user design review. There is improved commenting, the ability to move projects across hubs, and an improved A360 experience.

Instead of sending emails with static images or dealing with cumbersome screen sharing apps, users in Fusion 360 can share a link with a remote teammate or stakeholder who can then view an active model live in a web browser. Then they can see it manipulated in real time as part of the collaboration process.

Drawings in Fusion 360 have also been enhanced allowing users to draw associative centerlines and center marks in addition to aligning and renumbering balloons.

Another feature that is new is the ability to pattern components. And the company has worked hard to tackle stabilities issues, especially within the sketching environment. Over 40+ sketch related bugs have been fixed. To learn more visit here.
