AIA: Trimble releases new version of SketchUp Mobile Viewer

At AIA Atlanta, Trimble’s SketchUp team announced and demoed the latest version of SketchUp Mobile Viewer, advancing on the first initial release of the onsite presentation model viewer from last year. The initial release of a native SketchUp model viewer on a mobile device was highly anticipated. This is the first major update to the app.

What’s New

SketchUp Mobile Viewer remains primarily a way to view and navigate SketchUp models but in the new version the program adds several more features. The first feature is an improvement on its integration with Trimble’s 3D Warehouse, a vast community site and repository of SketchUp model files where users can view, browse, sort and filter search results for both models and collections.

This latest version of the viewer adds additional cloud collaboration platform support, including connections to Dropbox and Trimble Connect (formerly GTeam), Trimble’s cloud-based collaboration platform. SketchUp files can also be transferred locally from the desktop via iTunes (iOS) or an SD card (Android) and opened directly from other iOS and Android apps (e.g.: if sent as an email attachment).

SketchUp Mobile Viewer in its latest version adds the ability to navigate in “Look Around” mode, adding to existing multi-touch gestures in orbit, pan and zoom. Users can toggle back and forth between perspective and orthographic camera modes and even adjust the field of view (FoV).

01 – Trimble introduced version 2 of SketchUp Mobile at AIA Atlanta, with many new capabilities, including connection to Trimble Connect.

The app also supports SketchUp’s Face Style rendering options, including X-ray mode and a new layer visibility feature that allows the user to control the visible layers.

Availability

The new SketchUp Viewer app (version 2) is available now for $9.99.USD through both the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store. In addition to English, the app now supports French, Italian, German, Spanish, Japanese, Traditional Chinese, Brazilian Portuguese, Korean, Russian, Dutch and Polish.
