Concepts by TopHatch updates Sketching and CAD on iPad

The latest version of Concepts, an iOS app designed for sketching on an iPad, is gaining attention due to some excellent updates strolling into the tool. The developers at TopHatch are active and the app gains new features regularly.

Last Version and Features of Note

While people are familiar with tools such as Morpholio Trace or Paper by 53, this excellent iOS app has received less fanfare. This may change; it would be warranted.

Some of the newest features in Concepts include Snap-to-Sketching for an automatic completion of strokes. This happens via the built in Precision Model option in Concepts. There is also the ability to smooth out sketch strokes via algorithms built into the app and via a slider user-interface for the user. This means prepping work for export gets better.

Speaking of export. Concepts, since version 3.0, has Autodesk DXF export support, plus layers (like CAD layers) and measurement. Unlike other similar sketching tools, with Concepts you can draw at scale.  This enables the user to add dimensions.

Concepts works with many of the latest smart digital pens, such as Adobe Ink, Adonit Jot Touch, Wacom gear, et cetera. Concepts also supports the latest with the cloud, including Apple iCloud, Dropbox, and Google Drive. There is also a strong connection to Adobe if you use an Adobe Creative Cloud account you can import and export Photoshop files to work on.

Cost and Availability

The basic version of Concepts is free from the Apple App Store (iTunes). In-app purchases add additional functionality such as precision toolkit, layers and adjustment tools and more. To learn more and get yourself a copy of Concepts, visit the iTunes store.
