This week Luxion, the makers of the popular KeyShot advanced rendering software, announced that industrial German giant Siemens has chosen its KeyShot technology as its new rendering solution for Solid Edge, its mainstream CAD solution for the mechanical market.
KeyShot for Solid Edge, will be bundled and licensed with the latest release of Solid Edge ST7. This will help users of this popular MCAD tool experience renders of products and machines with real world materials and lighting. KeyShot will also the previously available rendering solution.
While there is an integration KeyShot for Solid Edge will remain its own application. This will allow users to refine their designs while animations and renderings are being produced in KeyShot.

The partnership between Luxion and Siemens PLM Software first brought users the plugin connecting KeyShot with Solid Edge. This employed Luxion’s LiveLinking™ technology. Now users will have the ability to assign materials directly within Solid Edge and this will immediately the speed of product development and photorealistic 3D renderings.
Availability
The new KeyShot for Solid Edge is delivered as a part of Solid Edge ST7. More information can be found here. KeyShot is available for the Windows and Mac OS X platforms. Solid Edge ST7 does not run natively on OS X but can run very effectively on Boot Camp running Windows on Apple Mac hardware.
