Hungary-based OrthoGraph Ltd. has recently updated its OrthoGraph Architect for iPad to version 5.0. The big new features in this latest release are its ability to export data and models out to the IFC 2×3 format for Open BIM collaboration workflows. IFC files created with OrthoGraph can then be imported into most BIM applications today as they nearly all support IFC as an interoperability standard.

OrthoGraph Architect for iPad v5 clearly establishes itself as one of the new leaders for IFC 2×3 workflows on the Apple iOS mobile device platform. Using IFC allows data to be easily transferred from one BIM application to another, using an open industry standard that continues to gain significant traction under the new Open BIM initiative and the initiatives of the buildingSMART group.
OrthoGraph’s IFC format contains the logical structure of the building with all properties, all walls, windows and doors in a 3D model also including their measured properties, and the objects will also be included.
Cloud Integation
Further advances in this release include more cloud options and OrthoGraph Architect for iPad v5 now supports Box cloud connectivity. Box is one of the leading online file sharing cloud applications available. This feature joins Dropbox and email as a file delivery system to and from the iPad.
Other new features include new properties for openings, both doors and windows now have ‘position’ on their property sheet.

OrthoGraph Architect supports dedicated connectivity to SketchUp and ArchiCAD at the moment. This happens by way of their OrthoGraph CAD Connectivity Tools. The tools in this set at the moment include both the Mac and Windows ArchiCAD Import Module for OrthoGraph and the Windows-only OrthoGraph Sketch Converter. With the IFC support most CAD/BIM systems can utilize this method for data/model transfer.
Lastly, there is an improved fit-to-window feature for PDF output, and importantly bug fixes as well.
