Gehry Technologies redefines online BIM collaboration for the AEC industry

Today Gehry Technologies have formally announced their advanced technologies based online BIM collaboration software as a service (SaaS) offering, GTeam. A global leader in developing and applying technology to the building industry, Gehry Technologies today announced the free preview availability of GTeam, a cloud-based 3D, file management and project collaboration platform purpose-built for Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) industry professionals and building owners.

Architosh has detailed a fair bit about GTeam here and  will be releasing a Product In-Depth report shortly about this interesting new online tool for AEC.  In short, GTeam allows collaboration of BIM data models online from multiple platforms with  participants anywhere in the world. One of its primary innovations is its ability to convert various BIM and 3D model data into a file-reduced proprietary format that can be viewed in a web-browser with the aid of a plugin. This viewer is more than a viewer however and can implement advanced markup and annotation tools and the ability to atomize the 3D data for particular types of viewing needs, including live sectioning.

Who’s Using It Already?

Notable architectural practices are already giving it a real test drive. These companies consist of COOP HIMMELB(L)AU, Safdie Architects, HOK, OLIN and many others. Not all of the firms testing it out are large and famous firms (more on that in our report coming up!).

Greg Schleusner, firm-wide BIM manager at HOK, stated, “The GTeam platform delivers on our online project collaboration needs and is much easier to use than all other solutions.”

Inspired by Frank Gehry’s vision of collaboration, GTeam was created specifically for AEC professionals using a 3D centric approach for project delivery. “GTeam embodies decades of hands-on project experience and the practical application of collaborative technology to deliver complex architectural projects,” says Dennis Sheldon, co-founder and CTO of Gehry Technologies. “It offers professional-grade secure sharing of project data, including the entire social and transactional history of the project.”
