FileMaker introduces new FileMaker 12 product line

FileMaker, Inc., today released FileMaker 12 database software for iOS, Mac and Windows platforms. Architosh got an advanced preview in Boston a little over a week ago (see Architosh In-Depth: The New FileMaker 12 Product Line-up, 4 April 2012) and we were impressed with the new capabilities, especially on the iOS and design side of things.

The new FileMaker Pro 12 includes beautiful new themes (a graphic architecture system that makes it incredibly easy to integrate a professional-looking user interface into your database solutions and products. There are great advancements on every product within the version 12 range but the big news is that FileMaker Go 12 for both iPad and iPhone are now free from the iTunes Store.

What is New

You can learn more about what is new by reading our feature Product In-Depth here. In summary there are three main areas of improvements: design, iOS deployment and servers and media management.

On the design side you can instantly improve the look of things by implementing one  of the attractive 16 themes. These Starter Solutions come preconfigured and come with both iPhone and iPad layout versions.

“Databases only boost productivity if people genuinely enjoy using them,” said Ryan Rosenberg, vice president, marketing and services, FileMaker, Inc. “Everyone wants a great database, but not everyone is a great designer. Let FileMaker 12 handle the design and you’ll create dazzling databases that are incredibly easy to use, on iPad, iPhone, desktop and the web.”

FileMaker Server 12 helps users manage a growing avalanche of digital content, especially multimedia files like video and photography. Container fields support drag-and-drop to store support as well as automated thumbnail previews. Managed linking to external files happens easily with FileMaker Server 12 managing the file directory linking for you.

FileMaker Go 12 for iPad and iPhone now support streaming. You can record media directly into container fields and you can stream out content using AirPlay. The Server versions are now complete 64-bit implementations enabling up to 1 TB data stores.
