The open-source 3D software suite, Blender, has won the inaugural Open Source Graphics Software Award Category in the 2010 Open Source Awards. The Open Source Software Award is a new category introduced to the Award this year, featuring various different types of Graphic Application software.

While Blender took the top honor with open source in the graphics category GIMP took the first runner up position while open source SVG graphics editor, Inkscape, took the second runners up category.

In other Blender news Blender 2.55 beta was released in early November. Blender is a very accomplished 3D production software suite and is fully open-source. Managed by the Blender Foundation, Blender supports 3D modeling, rigging, rendering and animation. It also supports UV unwrapping, shading, physics and particles, realtime 3D game creation, and image and compositing. Supported platforms include: Windows 2000, XP, Vista, Mac OS X Universal Binary, Linux PowerPC and Linux i386, FreeBSD Unix, SGI Irix, and Sun Solaris on Sparc, an impressive array of the world’s top platforms.

ArchiCAD 14 Danish Version Released

Luxion elevated to Gold Tier for PTC PartnerAdvantage

Luxion, the developer of KeyShot, the first realtime ray tracing and global illumination program, this week announced that PTC has elevated Luxion to the Gold Tier in its PTC PartnerAdvantage Program.

As noted on Architosh recently, Luxion has developed a plugin which connects its KeyShot product with PTC Creo Elements/Pro (formerly Pro/ENGINEER). Luxion works on Mac and Windows platforms.
