Dassault Systemes releases DraftSight 2D CAD system for Mac

France-based Dassault Systemes (DS), a world leader in 3D and product lifecycle management (PLM) software, announced this week the availability of its new DraftSight 2D CAD (computer-aided design) software for the Apple Mac OS X operating system.

“Creating a specific DraftSight interface for Mac OS  was always in our plans when we began development of DraftSight,” said Aaron Kelly, general manager, DraftSight, Dassault Systemes. “We had a vision to create a true, platform-specific experience for many operating systems, including Mac, and are excited to hear feedback from our community. We want to offer our users the convenience of being able to use DraftSight from any computer, whether they are home or at work.”

DraftSight for DWG

DraftSight allows users to create, edit and view DWG files. It supports a legacy amount of DXF and DWG file formats and the software is available for free. Dassault Systemes has created a new community online at http://www.draftsight.com.

DraftSight is professional-grade 2D CAD. It features external file referencing and blocks. Has a full featured Layer Management system, support for Polygonal ViewPorts, proxy objects, command aliases and traditional command line input. It also features a context-sensitive help system.

DraftSight can read and write DWG/DXF files using Teigha Classic specifications from the Open Design Alliance, can create both binary and ASCII DXF files, publish to eDrawings and Drawings Now by SolidWorks, save to JPEG, PDF, PNG, SVG, and other popular formats, as well as create print files in formats such as PDF, PLT, PNG and SVG.

DraftSight supports the creation of multi-page Adobe PDF files so you can bind several drawings into a single file. Currently DraftSight supports Windows and Mac but Linux support is coming soon.
