Autodesk releases Homestyler beta design app

Autodesk has announced the immediate availability of its new “Homestyler” online home and garden design application. The project was formerly known as Project Dragonfly inside Autodesk Labs. Blogger Shaan Hurley of Between the Lines jokes “it [Homestyler]  would also be ideal to turn your significant other loose on re-arranging the furniture digitally before you have to physically move it multiple times” but Autodesk likely has larger ambitions with this technology.

Homestyler Online App

Autodesk Homestyler is a simple online (cloud-based) 3D design application that is free. It is oriented towards non-professionals but the product can export out 2D/3D information in two key professional file formats: Autodesk DWG (AutoCAD) and Autodesk Revit files.

Autodesk Homestyler is a new consumer design product that works in the cloud and can save its 2D/3D design data into DWG and Revit files.

Homestyler allows you to quickly create floor plans and populate them with manufacturer driven objects. It’s simple drag & drop interface works similarly to other home design software applications commonly found in stores like Home Depot. The big difference is it works through a web browser and your design is stored online at Autodesk Homestyler. Another key feature about this application is it is free.
