Graphisoft, pioneers in the BIM software (building information modeling), have proudly announced that ArchiCAD-based firm, Daniel Marshall Architect, Ltd, has won a NZIA award for work to a classic modernist dwelling in Auckland’s Corinth Street. The project was fully designed, modeled and documented in ArchiCAD.
The award-winning project juxtaposes a stunning new white volume suspended within a larger darker volume that together are separated from the otherwise fully preserved 1963 modernist house by Vladimir Cacala, creating both a dynamic opposition that is also in keeping with the original house. The larger volume features soft black zinc cladding on the exterior referencing details from the original house. (see web captures below).
“ArchiCAD’s strength in 3D modeling was integral throughout the design process: from providing visual rendering to communicate ideas to the client, to ensuring compliance with planning controls; and of course, providing construction documentation to easily convey the information to the contractor,” says Daniel Marshall.
