Computer-aided Industrial Design software maker spread wings in Michigan

Detroit News online has an interesting story on the new Troy-based company responsible for solidThinking. solidThinking is actually developed in Italy but this year Altair Engineering Inc., purchaseed the company to help its excellent 3d software spread more rapidly among American car makers as well as its international clients and customers.

Auto makers alreading using solidThinking include Toyota and Volkswagen but American car companies are not yet key clients.

Alex Mazzardo, the company’s VP of product strategy and marketing said in the report that their mission is to bring digital tools to market for product designers so they can capture and explore and visualize their ideas.

Altair acquired the company’s assets in 2008 and is in the midst of moving the Mazzardo brothers to Michigan to complete the transition.

Designers use solidThinking software to create photorealistic 3D virtual prototypes of products across industries from jewelry to yachts to automobiles, Mazzardo said.

Architosh interviewed Alex Mazzardo back in 2003 about solidThinking and the company has since gotten much more popular.solidThinking is a class-A NURBS modeler and renderer and works cross-platform for Windows and Mac. It is a fully native Mac OS X application.
