Autodesk Earns Technical Academy Award for Maya Fluid Effects Technology

Autodesk developers Duncan Brinsmead, Jos Stam, Julia Pakalns and Martin Werner were all recognized with Technical Achievement Awards by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for their design and implementation of the Maya Fluid Effects System at the Technical Oscars event held earlier this month.

The main Oscar event is schedule for this coming Sunday evening and will be broadcast live by ABC.

Maya and Academy Awards

This is the fifth time Autodesk technologies and individuals have been recognized by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences with Scientific and Technical Achievement Awards. And it is the third time the Academy has so honored Maya software, a product created by Alias-Wavefront prior to their acquisition by Autodesk in 2005.

Marc Petit, senior vice president, Autodesk Media & Entertainment, said, “It is such an honor to be recognized with this Scientific and Technical Award by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences — the gold standard of achievement in filmmaking technology. This award is a testament to our brilliant engineers who continue to blaze new trails for the entire 3D computer graphics industry.”
