IBM chooses MiniCAD VectorWorks for its IBM IntelliStation

15 Dec 99.

According to a press release by Diehl Graphsoft, IBM has partnered with Diehl Graphsoft to provide VectorWorks as the CAD software component on IBM's IntelliStation Academic Workstations.

VectorWorks will serve the CAD foundation for the IBM IntelliStation, a workstation machine designed to offer advanced capabilities to creative technical disciplines, such as Architecture, Engineering, Scientific Analysis and Research. These tools will help designers and scientists investigate and advance concepts and methodology within their fields.

Diehl Graphsoft CEO, Richard Diehl stated, "It is an honor to be chosen by IBM and Academic Distributing from all the other CAD programs. We feel that this will further reinforce our standing in the Windows market as well as making VectorWorks more accessible to members of academia."

Comments

Diehl Graphsoft continues to make impressive strides in the Windows market and this deal with IBM and its academic distributor, Academic Distributing, will help continue the trend. This isn't much news for Mac using VectorWorks users, but considering the impact VectorWorks can have on future AEC engineers at the college level, this type of deal can have a big effect on the growing independence from Autocad by engineers -- a step in the right direction for Mac users who deal with engineering consultants on the Windows platform.
