Apple News: BidCom's 'e-Marketplace' embraces WebObjects!
BidCom has embraced Apple's WebObjects technology for their new 'e-Marketplace' website, a comprehensive resource for the building industry's professionals to collaborate, exchange information, and facilitate commerce. BidCom is considered one of the leading hot new companies on the Internet today, focused on web-centric services and information technologies for the entire $3.2 trillion worldwide building industry. BidCom is considered one cool company in the electronic economy, being judged a top 100 company by RedHerring and "Cool Companies 1999" by Fortune magazine. CNBC's MoneyTalk said BidCom "may be a hot one" in this Fall's IPO's. And CADENCE magazine has judged BidCom a Show Stopper Award at the AEC Systems 1999 show. BidCom started by bringing building project management systems entirely online via project Extranets. Thousands of building professionals around the world are now managing construction projects via BidCom's Web technology from design through post-construction facilities management phases. Anybody with a Web browser can interact with the company's technology which is driven by Oracle-based databases on Windows NT servers. WebObjects and 'e-Marketplace' Their new e-Marketplace is a central place on the web where building industry professionals collaborate, exchange information, and facilitate commerce. This e-Marketplace is designed to help you better manage your risks, drive down costs, and complete valuable business on-time. The site is designed to have something for everyone in the building industry, from building owners, architects, engineers, contractors, down to suppliers and brokers. What's more, the site is free! Using e-Marketplace To use e-Marketplace you need to register yourself (no credit card info required) and choose a user name and password. One completed your screen will welcome you with a custom message with your name in it. You can modify your company or professional profile at any time later by selecting a Modify Profile button. Here are some of the things you can do:
One of the really neat features of this site is the ability to find project leads. You select from popdown menus various criteria (like city, state, type of project) and then perform a search between a range of dates. Full contact information shows up for each result in addition to proposal or RFI (requests for information) or RFP's due dates. e-Tools gives you the Quick Cost Estimator This handy tool allows you to perform a rough estimate of costs based on square footage for the project and project type. Mac Architects, Engineers and Contractors Welcomed at BidCom BidCom technology may run on Windows NT but to use it you only need an up-to-date web browser running on any platform. The company even said that you can access the BidCom extranet system from PDA's and other future devices -- and features off-line viewing and working with the data with data synchronization. While WebObjects may be the system behind their e-Market website it is not the hart of the BidCom project extranet technologies. Instead the those are powered by Oracle's powerful database technologies which now have QuickTime integration abilities, including the abilities to stream video from interactive Web-based databases.
