Great question about shape and externals. I think the whole concept is quite groundbreaking with the ventilation core and single turbine fan. It's going to be incredibly quiet given all the power.

Instead of stacking PCI external housings might want to be designed as a backdrop for the round unit. They could even unfold around it. A complementary approach is to play a counter-point to the Darth Pro itself.

What do you think about the shape of the new Mac Pro 2013 ?

It is one thing to send harddrives and PCIe-cards to an external housing, but it get's quite difficult to create a suitable housing for the shape of the new Mac Pro, isn't it ?
Squares, circles, triangle, etc. or cubes, cylinder, pyramides are all archetypes but these geometries are also quite undefined compared to a rectangle or a cuboid.
The Mac mini gives due to its shape a straight idea how it could be extended.
You may think the Mac Pro 2013 could be extended the same, which would create a column. But the cognition is a completely different as it appears as a weak or instable structure. And the thermal core might not like heat sources underneath.

So another question for the success of the Mac Pro 2013 will be how the the expansions will look like. Will we finally end up with a mess of cable and helter-skelter of boxes ?
