Cadence Magazine
doesn't avoid Macs on purpose
Architosh has been following the editorial coverage of CAD magazine
leader Cadence for quite some time now. Naturally being Mac users
we are sensitive to this magazine's treatment and occasional coverage
of Macintosh software. Indeed, if one was to skim through a series
of monthly editions looking for the word Macintosh or Appleor
even a Mac screen shotone would be hard pressed. There aren't
many Mac moments in Cadence.
Readers React
One reader of Cadence and Architosh wrote to us concerning Laiserin's
articles:
These three articles are the first that
I've noticed of Laiserin's, and I find them to be well-written
and relatively in-depth, especially compared with general publications
like Macworld where half of any article might be an exercise in
creative writing. I wrote him to thank him for writing these articles,
identifying myself as a Mac user, and he replied:
Thanks
for your kind words. Although I reviewed the Windows versions,
these are both great cross-platform tools that serve the Mac
platform well. Regarding DenebaCAD (or ArchiDesign, or other
Mac-CAD tools), I only write what the editors ask for and they,
in turn, only respond to what readers want. So, feel free to
express your interests to Cadence's editor-in-chief, Arnie Williams
-- awilliams@cmp.com.
This Mac reader has the right idea. Go ahead and contact your favorite
CAD journalist and let them know you are a Mac CAD user reading
articles about Windows and would like your needs to be on the agenda
(at least every now and then). You can't get what you don't ask
for.
Mac Coverage Picks Up at Cadence
This October 2000 edition of
Cadence has one excellent article for architects on the Mac.
Emmanuel A. Garcia, an architectural CAD consultant wrote about
"Desktop Visualization Tools for Designers". His excellent
summary article not only covers many Macintosh 3D and CAD tools
but has many
Mac screen shots. In fact, some of the best rendering shots
were done on Macs, while admittedly the VectorWorks screen shot
didn't flatter that program too well.
To Mr. Garcia, many thanks for the fair coverage and knowledge
of Macintosh tools.
