Mac OS X: Apple seeks UNIX apps for science/technology

As many of you know from stories in the press (and our Apple and Science article) Apple is seriously well-poised to take on new markets with Mac OS X that were not realistically possible with the old-architectured Mac OS 9.

As has been mentioned by prominent technology-oriented programmers the prospect of a POSIX-compliant UNIX OS with an advanced graphical user-interface is just too much for many advanced users to resist (regardless of their current Windows NT/2000 or UNIX platform). Mac OS X offers the world something totally new: an incredibly powerful industrial-grade UNIX combined with a renowned friendly Mac OS face that advances GUI-based design with innovative features.

Apple is seeking help in identifying strictly UNIX applications for science or technical fields that should be running under OS X. High candidates would include UNIX apps that run alongside Macs in mixed platform environments as well as key (highly wanted) anchor applications for specific technical disciplines. ProEngineer comes to mind.

Architosh was asked by John Martellaro, Senior Marketing Manager for Science & Technology Markets, to send forward URL's to candidate apps. Architosh will act as a catch basin and forward the appropriate material to John at Apple.

Please send URL's or names of UNIX apps that make strong candidates for OS X to: info@architosh.com (place "UNIX" in subject or body of message). Thanks!
