Abvent's AEC products: Art-lantis Render, ZOOM & Katabounga
French Macintosh software developer Abvent has a valuable suite of AEC/3D tools! Art-lantis Render 3.5 Abvent's star application is Art-lantis Render, now at version 3.5. This rendering application keeps getting better and better with each version. New features in the latest version include:
Abvent offers additional CD's on shaders for more textures, wood finishes and tiles, plus furniture materials, wall coatings, etc. Art-Lantis Render 3.5 works on both Macintosh and Windows 95/98, NT 3.51-4.0. You can get customized versions of Art-lantis Render as well. That way you favorite CAD application can write the Art-lantis Render format directly from it with the use of a plug-in. Customized versions of Art-lantis Render exist for the following Macintosh applications:
Many of these plugins allow for round-trip fidely between the CAD/modeling application and Art-lantis Render. VectorWorks and ZOOM are two such cases. ZOOM v. 5.5 ZOOM is a Macintosh-only 3D modeling program many do no know about. The program offers some advanced modeling abilities ideal for architects, industrial designers and 3D artists. The latest format offers an array of import/export compatibility options including:
ZOOM has a slightly different type of interface. The tool palettes are larger and more user-friendly looking. ZOOM cand display up to 4 3D plane views simultaneously, allowing you to see instantly changes from each view. ZOOM also has 350 library objects to be used in scenes. ZOOM allows for more advanced surface modeling than most Macintosh CAD products used in the AEC world. You can do an almost infinite variety of combinations of surface mesh, boolean solids or surface modeling techniques to create the shapes you are looking for. The tool palette icons have the classic Mac look from the past, which is appealing to many who detest the overly complicated and unintellible icons of today. Katabounga 3.0 This app is an interactive multimedia program for creating presentations. The program is oriented toward those not interested in the full power (and cost) of programs like Macromedia Director. The latest July issue of MacAddict just reviewed the product and gave it some favorable comments. A demo version was included in that magazine's CD-ROM. Katabounga 3.0 could be your next presentation tool. The program allows for the combination of text, graphics, sounds, video and animations. In addition, a scripting language is built-in for advanced users. Interactivity is produced via a drag & drop palette of actions.
