MacCAD News: Gestel Tilery and Giotto apps: Mac OS X?
Gestel, the makers of solidThinking (soon to be coming to the Mac OS!), have two products which make excellent candidates for early Mac OS X client CAD and 3D modeling applications related to AEC. GESTEL Tilery Tilery is a professional application for designing, tiling and visualizing interior environments like Bathrooms and kitchens in a natural and intuitive way. Starting with a 2D plan the user can generate a 3D space with a few easy commands, allowing the user to tile walls, floors and ceilings and compute the precise number of tiles to be used. The user can input furniture and fixtures to complete the space. The product consist of three modules. Tile Builder - allows the user to create parametric catalogues of materials in different shapes and sizes and surface properties of each material. Tile 2D - the heart of the system -- basically a CAD package for designing the space in 2D. solidThinking - the 3D modeling and rendering environment. Tilery platform support: currently available on any NeXTSTEP, OPENSTEP platform, including Intel based PC's, HP-PA RISC, SUN SPARC, and NeXT. All various flavors of UNIX hardware and software. Because of this UNIX and NeXTSTEP code base, Tilery makes an excellent candidate for an early Mac OS X version. Since GESTEL is porting solidThinking to the Mac OS, they are likely producing a Carbon-compliant version to run on system 8.x to 9.x. This Carbon version could form the base for a Mac OS X version with little code rewrite. In affect, a Carbon-based application for Mac OS X will run under Mac OS 9 just fine without the modern features included in Mac OS X. GESTEL Giotto Giotto is a OPENSTEP (Intel, HP-PA RISC, SUN SPARC, NeXT) platform application for professional stone masons and manufacturing. The program helps create CAD and 3D visualization for small to large stone manufacturing. This application may also be a Mac OS X candidate, given its NeXT platform connections. For more information on these applications please contact GESTEL directly via email.
