DenebaCAD 2.0: Mac-only CAD program goes cross-platform
Deneba Software quietly released DenebaCAD 2.0 early this month -- a time frame that put it just after Seybold and Apple's stunning announcements there. According to the press release, Deneba's new improved DenebaCAD 2.0 is now a cross-platform program (previously available only for the Macintosh). DenebaCAD 2.0 runs on Windows 95/98, NT and Macintosh OS computers. The popular CAD application from Deneba is squarely targeted at professional architects and A/E/C pros offering integrated precise 2D drafting, interactive 3D modeling, and lightning-fast photo-realistic rendering into a single application. This latest version offers unparalleled DXF/DWG v.14.01 file format I/O support. Deneba claims their AutoCAD support rivals AutoCAD itself with complete translation of all 2D, 3D and text-object data during any file import and/or export operation, as well as flawless AutoCAD-style External Referencing. In a welcome addition, DenebaCAD 2.0 can publish and share drawings over the Internet by using its built-in file support for AutoCAD's DWF Web-specific file format. Deneba claims you get better support for AutoCAD in DenebaCAD 2.0 than in AutoCAD LT or IntelliCAD. DenebaCAD 2.0 provides a tightly integrated and focused application for architects enabling them to concentrate on the design and production facets of practice without the reliance on specialized CAD draftsman and information experts. The program's context sensitive menus and tools provide only the right tools for what you are doing at the moment, enabling a cleaner and more straight forward interface design. Architects can generate 3D modes from 2D drawings, or, if they prefer, extract 2D working drawings from 3D models; plus, they can instantly create elevations, sections and perspectives at any time. The program's lists of features include things like 16-bit precision for 3D model data, the fastest rendering engine in its class, transparency and reflectivity rendering, powerful 2D/3D Boolean operations, automatic plan, section and perspective generation, shadow casting and artificial light sources, spreadsheets and integrated database reporting and an impressive list of import/export file formats including: DXF, DWG, DWF, CGM, IGES, EPS, TIF, HPGL, AI, BMP, PSD, TXT, WMF, JPG, GIF and 3DMF formats. In addition, DenebaCAD 2 has robust support for QuickTime and QuickTimeVR DenebaCAD 2.0 is estimated at a street price of $569.95 US, while competitive upgrades run at $499.95 US; DenebaCAD 1.0 users can upgrade for just $99.00 -- half of what it costs other CAD users to often upgrade on competing CAD platforms.
