New Advanced Mac CAD program from BOA Research !
BOA Research is producing a new Macintosh CAD program for architecture and A/E/C that makes big promises in its message to prospective new users. BOA Research: "Where Vision and Technology Converge" is the company's slogan for the new model-centric, architectural CAD application. The company states that BOA "is an architectural design and drawing software with a work environment hereto only imagined." One of its main features is its ability to not only automatically produce plans, sections and elevations from a centralized model data, but to maintain bi-directional linking between the model data and the various 2D and 3D drawings that are products of the data. This allows you to make a plan change later in a plan drawing view with the model being updated automatically. Make a change in the model environment and all drawings created by the design team update automatically. Essentially, what is being described is a condition wherein the drawings are constant representations of the latest model data rather than one-time extractions that lose their linking to the model. BOA Research claims the application has the most "architecturally intuitive interface formally and visually."
BOA is currently in beta and is available free for use and testing. The latest version according to the website is version 0.5.2. The program supports DWG read/writes (up to AutoCAD version 14 DWG) and DXF. In addition, the program supports Architrion 5.8 files generated on the Mac or PC. The final version of BOA will support OpenGL on both the Macintosh and Windows platforms. (NOTE: OpenGL for the Mac is G4 optimized for AltiVec, aka, Velocity Engine). BOA is 64-bit software, enabling you to maintain very large models with numerous drawings. Currently, the BOA team has a model of Manhattan as a test file with two mid-rise buildings modeled down to the stair rail detail. The final version of BOA 1 is expected to arrive by late Fall and will be available directly from BOA Research as well and selected resellers. Requirements for the system include a Power Macintosh with 32 MB's or more, plus Mac OS 8.5 or older. A Windows version is also planned but no beta for Windows is yet available.
