Diehl Graphsoft to preview 'Armadillo' beta product at A/E/C Systems '99
The Exposition at A/E/C Systems '99 begins today, and Diehl Graphsoft will be previewing a beta software product code named 'Armadillo', in its booth (no. 2001) in the Los Angeles Convention Center, during the show. Armadillo is a vertical market software product aimed specifically at architectural design professionals and is scheduled for release in September 1999. Armadillo will offer a focused collection of architectural design, production and management tools, with an array of productivity enhancements geared toward the creation of construction documents. Features will include the automated creation and management of information libraries, including room finish, wall types, general notes data which can be easily incorporated into the drawing from within Armadillo as opposed to using external files and notation systems. Also, included in the product is a "redlining" feature which highlights and tracks user markups and flags potential conflicts in the drawing set. Armadillo is the first step in Diehl Graphsoft's aggressive initiative to bring a family of new, modular vertical market software products (as many as seven) by year-end 2001. All of these new products are developed using Diehl Graphsoft's proprietary scripting language, called VectorScript -- a language that was previously called MiniPascal in earlier MiniCAD versions prior to VectorWorks. The company has developed a complete VectorScript programming language and development environment built into VectorWorks and has established the VectorWorks Developer Network (VWDN) to promote VectorScript as a development platform for third-party developers. Currently, there are 60 commercial third-party developers active in the program. Diehl Graphsoft is a leading international developer of CAD software for the Macintosh and Windows platforms (see related news on Soft Letter 100 placement). MiniCAD has been the best-selling CAD software on the Macintosh platform and is an emerging global leader in the Windows market. The software is marketed in over 14 languages.
