Apple Software Updates Summary
Apple released numerous software updates for the month of April. In case you may have missed them, what follows is a summary of general Mac OS software updates available from Apple now: ColorSync Profile First Aid, version 2.6 is a first aid application which repairs ColorSync profiles that no longer display correctly in the ColorSync control panel, despite being installed properly. ColorSync profiles for scanners, printers, monitors and other devices can, on occasion, become corrupted and will no longer be available for choosing from the control panel. This update will fix that issue. For those of you lucky enough to have a new Blue & White G3, this Firmware update, version 1.02 will improve performance for PCI devices, including FireWire ports, improve NetBooting (for Mac OS X Server client machines) and minor improvements to OpenWare for Mac OS XS. Apple recommends all users of B&W G3's update this firmware. The Apple LocalTalk Bridge is an unsupported control panel that bridges a LocalTalk network to another network selected from the Network and AppleTalk control panels. This solution allows a faster networked architecture, like Ethernet, to support a connected LocalTalk network--common for connecting LocalTalk-only LaserWriter printers, PowerBooks without Ethernet support, or Apple Newton MessagePads communication devices to gain access to Network services. Changes from version 2.0 include compatibility with Open Transport. Update is version 2.1. LaserWriter 8500 PPD, version 1.2, is an updated PostScript Printer Description file designed for the LaserWriter 8500 printer. The LaserWriter 8 driver uses the PPD file to determine the characteristics of your printer and make various printing options available to you when you print.
