Trimble’s ProjectSight—Next-Gen Cloud-based iPad App for Construction Management

The proliferation of mobile apps in the building industry isn’t solving the interoperability issues from too many point apps. Trimble ProjectSight has been re-architected to address this challenge, connect to Trimble Connect, and handle natural messaging style communications.

Trimble recently hosted their annual Trimble Dimensions user conference and made a series of big announcements. One of those was the new Trimble ProjectSight™, a completely re-architected iOS app designed to address growing challenges construction teams face in their day-to-day operations.

Addressing Interoperability of Point Solutions

A big pain-point in the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industries is addressing interoperability issues between teams and users across disciplines. Trimble ProjectSight addresses this challenge.

ProjectSight is a complete web and mobile solution. It streamlines the creation, access, and sharing of project information between the office and the job site; ProjectSight includes advanced markup tools for both 2D and 3D CAD models, integrated project controls functionality, and an innovative team collaboration engine to improve clarity and “traceability.”

“The unfortunate fallout from the recent explosion of mobile apps for construction has been the creation of data silos,” said Marcel Broekmaat, segment manager of Trimble Buildings’ General Contractor / Construction Manager Division. “Today, many contractors are reporting that disparate workflows and communication gaps between teams are creating huge inefficiencies and costly rework; and project managers no longer feel like they have control over projects. With ProjectSight, we are breaking down those data silos by providing a centralized workflow that is easy for all field teams to access, update and share critical project data.”

Accessible via the web or an iPad app, Trimble ProjectSight features a simple and intuitive user interface with smart, design-centric workflows to keep teams in sync. Access to centralized data provides teams with up-to-date information to and from the field. The new solution streamlines version control for drawings and models, issues reporting, checklists, RFIs, photos, submittals and other critical project data.

Key Features List of ProjectSight

Here are the top core features:

  • Advanced 2D and 3D Markup — ProjectSight allows users the ability to add field notes, annotations, comments and conversations to any 2D drawing and 3D file and automatically embeds the project control data in context of models and plans making it easy to update, reference, and access while in the field.
  • Collaboration — the new collaboration method allows multiple team members to contribute as they would with standard text messaging, but better. Team Conversation keeps a digital record of these interactions to maintain an audit trail of decisions made throughout the project.
  • BIM workflow enhancements — featuring a nearly transparent integration with the Trimble Connect™ collaboration platform, authorized stakeholders can access and share detailed BIM files without the requirement of specialized model viewing applications.
  • Offline capabilities — Users have access to all of their drawings as well as all other ProjectSight features and functionalities, even without a WiFi connection.

“We are excited to get Trimble ProjectSight into the hands of our users,” said Jeremy Sibert, director of technology at Hensel Phelps. “Easy-to-use and accessible from anywhere, ProjectSight ensures that our project managers, field crews, and partners are in sync throughout the project. Using ProjectSight and Trimble Prolog together will enable us unprecedented control to deliver quality projects on time and on budget.”

Learning More, Trying and Buying

Trimble ProjectSight is available as a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) subscription for projects and companies. A free trial subscription is also available, which gives users up to three team members with access to the complete system.
